- Fight for 1988 Direct Election

In 1987, HKPTU participated in organizing a public gathering in Victoria Park to support the 1988 Direct Election in the Legislative Council, advocating a democratic political system instead of an appointing system depriving the citizens of the right to vote.

- HKPTU's Representative Winning in the Legislative Council Election

When the Legislative Council first carried out an Indirect Election in 1985, HKPTU's chairman Mr. Szeto Wah was elected to the Council for the Teaching Constituency. Mr. Szeto was elected again in the 1988 election. Our new chairman, Mr. Cheung Man Kwong was elected in 1992 and 1995. Mr. Szeto left the Teaching Constituency but was directly elected to the Council in the same year as a representative for Kwun Tong District. Thus, HKPTU can press the government for more democratic development within the government through the Legislative Council.
