During the first month of our teaching career, it may be a good idea to ask ourselves the following questions:
¡@¡@~Is teaching an easy job?
¡@¡@~Where, what and how am I going to start?
¡@¡@~What should we look for and pay attention to in different
¡@¡@¡@teaching situations?
¡@¡@Let's see if the following is of any help.
¡@¡@¡@ The scope of work as a class teacher:
~General affairs and miscellaneous responsibilities
¡@¡@The following should take up a lot of your class time in the first two weeks :
¡@¡@. Make a class seat plan
¡@¡@. Elect monitors and prefects
¡@¡@. Set up the class club
¡@¡@. Collect all kinds of fees
¡@¡@. Fill up forms for various subsidized schemes : transport subsidy, text book and exercise book subsidy, etc.
¡@¡@
¡@¡@ Read the instructions and be sure exactly what to do with the forms before you start.
¡@¡@ Making mistakes and finding it unable to get new forms is embarrassing!
¡@¡@ Check and confirm the details before submission.
¡ã Know your class
¡@¡@ . Know how to read the names of each of the students before you enter the classroom.
¡@¡@ ¡@ Look up the dictionary if you are uncertain.
¡@¡@ . Read up the file of each student, get to know what they are good at and show your appreciation.
¡@¡@
¡@¡@ Never threaten your students about their bad records.
¡@¡@ Look for good qualities in them.
¡ãUnderstand the system of your school, especially :
¡@¡@ . The school regulations
¡@¡@ . The reward and punishment system
¡@¡@ . What students can and cannot do in school
¡@¡@ . What your responsibilities are when you are on duty : before class during recess and after school.
¡ãUnderstand what you cannot do as a teacher :
¡@¡@ . Apply corporal punishment on your students
¡@¡@ . Punish your students by asking them to stand outside the classroom
¡@¡@ . Inflict other forms of mental or physical punishment on your students
¡@¡@
¡@¡@ Reward is always better than punishment.
¡ã Saturday and weekend duties:
¡@¡@ . Check to see if you have any special duties on Saturdays or weekends.
¡@¡@ . What should you wear to school?
¡@¡@ ¡@ Different schools have different customs. Check with your eyes!
¡@¡@
¡@¡@ Students like teachers who look young and friendly and enthusiastic!
